About Jaume Labro

Jaume Labro, after graduating from Arts University, he combines professional climbing with some work on trading business in Central America and Europe. With all that travels around the world and with always and special interest in diamonds and gemstones since a kid, decides to enroll in gemological studies. He chooses AIGS (more focus in trade field) and later in GIA (more focus in lab and scientific field) and often called “the Harvard of gemology”. Graduates both. He made and specialization in Diamonds and Pearls also in GIA. After that he learn gemstone cutting under John Lee Vigil and later with Jerry Call (considered one of the best gemstone cutters ever. Consultant of Tiffany, Cartier, American Gem Society. He cut the famous Carolina Emerald; owned by Tiffany & Company. Cut for many celebrities including Elizabeth Taylor. His mastery fine gem cutting can be seen in: Elizabeth Taylor Collection, The Smithsonian Institute, The Carnage Natural History Museum, The Natural Museum of History, NY., Tiffany’s.). After Jerry Call apprenticeship, it was time to travel to South East Asia, Central Asia, East and West Africa, Polynesia, etc…selecting rough diamonds and gemstones that later will be cut by himself for some of the most exclusive brands. It seems that see in first hand that part of the business, creates a big impact in his personality. At certain point, and because still was in his mind since he studied in GIA, Mokume Gane take all the attention for him, so once more he decide to keep learning but as always, only with the best artists and institutions around the world. After leave Hawaii where he was living, it moves to Kyoto (Japan), a well-known city for his traditional Japanese art and culture. In Kyoto, he devoted to learn Mokume Gane, under Tsuibu Sensei (a true artist with a family background of more than 400 years). Also was learning under Hansruedi Spillman in Switzerland, an authority in Mokume Gane and a great European artist. Jaume Labro always remember Hansruedi Spillman as somebody how encourage and help him a lot with new techniques and knowledge that allow then create Labro jewelry as it is know. Labro jewelry is the combination of all the skills acquired through the years with some of the best artists, cutters and goldsmiths. At the present moment, he lives in Kyoto (Japan) and devout into create better and better pieces.
